What have I learnt/gained from AS media

I personally feel that i have gained/learnt a lot from AS media. i started media knowing nothing at all about it, apart from the fact that it was a fun subject to study. As time went on and media became more familiar i found it to be engaging and interesting. i was practically learning new things every lesson and just learning my way around skills on camera, editing and sound.

At first i learnt about television soap drama and what the British film industry in which we studied essays and case studys.

As mid october approached we as a class moved on to learning about what a good thriller is what it includes and what we could imitate (intertextuality) from examples of good thrillers, such as Memento, Psycho, The Step Father and many more.

We as a class were then taught many skills to do with the college JVC camera, such as how to record camera footage, place the tripod and how to chose the appropriate focus for our filming. Below is a photo of the college camera

Once we learnt how to record footage using the college JVC camera we were  taught how to edit the clips  recorded in Final Cut Pro were could combine all the shots taken for thriller opening and add sound and titles. Below is a screen grab of Final Cut Pro

Mentioning sound i remembered that we were also taught how to create sound on Soundtrack Pro, which  I found one of the hardest tasks to do regarding media. But lukily other members in my group were fluent in using Sound Track Pro and were able to produce a suitable soundtrack for our  bag swap and thriller opening. Below is a screen grab of the bag swap sound.

Lastly but not least we were taught how to create titles using Live Type, which found quite amazing as you could create professional titles such as the titles you see in many movies whether its thriller or comedy. Below is a screen grab of my name in Live Type.

Indent For "Reap As You Sow"

We as a group were very keen on including an ident in our thriller opening 'Reap As You Sow'

We fought having an ident for our thriller is important as it sets expectations on what the audience can expect to see out of the produced film, It also suggests that the ideas produced habe been created by the production company, as it becomes copy right
At first we wanted to use a worldwide ident such as;
Columbia Pictures
20th Century Fox

However
We later decided that choosing one of these extremly popular production idents would be unrealistic, as our movie was produced without having to purchase any crops costumes or any factors creating the overall mis en scene . We then found an ident that the majority of thriller groups were including which we thought was appropriate for the our  thriller
 "CandiStudios"

Evaluation of Reap As You Sow

Firstly i would like to start by saying that i am extremely proud of the way Reap As You Sow has turned out, however i do still feel that there are certain areas in the opening that could use a few tweaks such as;

1) I strongly feel that we as a group could have improved quite significantly on the credits/titles included in our opening, initally it would have been best to have created the titles in Live Type, however as we as a group werent very familiar with live type we decided to create the titles in Final Cut Pro. We incorporated the font style  'Gill Sans' in our titles which we later as a group thought could have been replaced with San serif

2)Initally we as a group wanted to create a huge impact on the actual murdering of the victim , however we later found that we missed out a number or crucial close ups, such as the murders and victims point of views, By mentioning close ups i remembered that ideally i created a storyboard in which it was planned for us to include a range of different aspects of the murder. , We as a group accedintally forgot to take shots of the culprit washing blood off his hands, and when realised we forgot decided to shoot the shot using the college staff room however later fought it does not work well with the over all opening and decided to leave it out.

3) Ideally i feel that the opening would have worked well if it had been shot during the evening instead of the day time , i feel by doing this it would have created that extra intrigue.

On the whole i am very pleased with what we as a group were able to pull off, and just await to see what grade we get.

Thanking the entire crew of Reap As You Sow

I would like to take the time out to congratulate my group for their hard work, who without Reap As You Sow would not have been as well as it currently is.

Thanks to Viet Pham  who edited the majority of Reap As You Sow you have been a great person to work with who is academically well in editing footage on Final Cut pro, it is for your your hard work and dedication, That we as a group were able to complete the final edit/ cut of Reap As You Sow, so once again thannk you.

Thanks to Zak Chennane who was an excellent camera man, who with the help of we were as a group were able to collect all our desired shots. Without you Zak it would have been impossible for us to have achieved the current shots included in our final edit, once again thanks for all your hard work.

Lastly but not least thanks to Ryan Cameron for being an superb actor and star in "Reap As You Sow". I personally think that no one eles in the group could have acted as well as you did.  A huge thank you for all your hard work and dedication in acting.

Congratulations to my Group

I would like to take this time out to congratulate my group for their hard work.

Thanks to Sayf Ahmed who have came up with most of the plot and storyline of the opening. You have been great, without your hard work and dedication, I dont think that the group could have done it without you.

Thanks to Zak Chennane who really just did the camera work. You have been a good camera man, without you in the group, I think that I would have been the camera man instead but you did good.

Thanks to Ryan Cameron for being the star of the opening thriller, "Reap As You Sow". Also thanks for creating the music soundtrack for the opening. You did a great job.
