Evaluation Question 6 - Audience Feedback & Comment

OVERALL! VIEWERS THOUGHT THAT MY THRILLER OPENING WAS "VERY GOOD".
VIDEOS BELOW SHOWED WHAT THEY LIKED ABOUT MY THRILLER...

other feedback i had collected from other viewers shown in this wordle:

Evaluation Question 4 & 5 - What kind of media institution might distribute my media product and why? How will I attract/address my audience?

I have decided to use group 30's brilliant student media work as my example as they have had a successful amount of hits using the internet making their media thriller opening very popular locally.

the use of facebook - a very popular social network site that can help anyone to advertise products or new forms of media such as music, films, articles etc.

Also putting their video on other video sites such as Youtube & even Vimeo is very helpful to gain popularity and reputation.

Cinema we will view everyones thriller movies on the 5th of April, is below at 'the screen.' Other cinemas at which our thriller can be presented in:

I have envisioned a particular style of marketing for our thriller. As well as using social networking sites to promote it, campaigns, leaflets and magazines [Print Advertising] or using other websites as banners and tv adverts [Broadcast Advertising] would also help raise awarness of it. Premiere, film, empire [all magazines], similarly TV adverts, adverts before highly rated youtube videos and adverts on the side of facebook all can boost ratings.

One of the main film magazines is Total Film, which advertises new films and stars, also information and advertising for the film. Most of the front covers like the one shown above have a large image which shows the main characters in a certain film. They range from headshots to a longshot all of which make the film completly clear which is being advertised. They also like to cover some of the magazine title with the image this adds another dimesnsion to the page and it also look more professional, an example of this is this front page where he is looking directly into the camera as a figure of power, and on a shelf would gain eye contact and intrest the target audience. Also by the main characters being easily recognisable it will make people want to read a review and see what the film is like befire they watch it.

Evaluation Question 2 - how my media product represents particular social groups.soc

the star character in my media thriller, played by me, has elements & conventions that are similar to real movie openings. My character is dressed in darkish clothes that could give viewers of my thriller the idea that he is the baddy or just overall a dark minded character.

i decided to compare my character of a slightly different sub-genre.

Sam from kidulthood & adulthood, played by noel clarke, has been compared to my character when it comes to their image. This was said by other contemporary film makers.

Both characters kill someone in the films that they are in.

HOWEVER

  • My thriller is a differernt sub genre to kidulthood. which would mean that my character would have a slightly different mentality to sam.
  • my character dresses differently. e.g. military boots, leather jacket, jeans. colour scheme is dark blue ish black.

The representations and stereotypes of the killer from my thriller are:

TALL

SLY

BLACK

QUIET

Evaluation Question 1 - how my media product use, develops or challenges forms and conventions of real media.

[Media Coursework] Thriller Opening - The Whole Shebang.

I really enjoyed producing my thriller opening as part of my media coursework. I felt that it helped me greatly in understanding what happens behind the scenes when films are being created.

Working in a group was very challenging. Each of us had our own ideas for how we wanted to produce the thriller opening.
My initial idea was similar to our overall project, only i wanted to involve a supernatural theme to it e.g. Vampires. I wanted the killer to be a vampire and it would lead on to the rest of the film being a supernatural thriller. I was willing to get contacts and fake fangs and blood so that it would look realistic.

HOWEVER

the rest of my group didn't really agree with my idea so we had to co-operate and decide what our plot would be.

in the end the main plot for "reap as you sow" came from Zak. once everyone had agreed on how we would film it we decided to create a storyboard and pitch our idea to our media teachers.

We then had to plan where we would shoot our project. Sayf had contacted a church near his local resident and we were able to shoot in there as well as the park opposite it.

Once we got to filming I felt our idea was coming to life. We filmed most of the project in one day and the rest was done not long afterwards.

Once we had filmed, it was all down to the editing of the clips, creating the titles, and composing the soundtrack.

Once It was all completed, we had saved our Final edit and decided to post it on our blog ready for examining.

Evaluation of The Media Academic Year [So Far]

Since starting media at an AS level, I've grown to like it even more than I did when I was doing it at a GCSE level.

Since september I have learnt a variety of key terms and ideas that have come very useful when I was doing my thriller opening with my group.

I've been taught so many new skills such as how to use a camera and how to record.

Once I learnt how to record I was then taught how to edit the clips I had recorded and learnt how to add sound, titles and effects on to it to make it look more professional.

Soundtrack, I must say, I found most enjoyable I was able to compose a suitable soundtrack for my bag swap film and my thriller opening.

Overall, I have really enjoyed this academic year so far and I am looking forward to showcasing my work to the rest of my fellow pupils that do media on April 5th in Vue cinema. (Y)

Below is a Wordle creation that has key words showing the key terms for what Final Cut Pro is. The larger text are the most important related words to do with Final Cut.

About Soundtrack.

Below shows some key words in a wordle format that resemble the idea of what soundtrack is.

Final Full Day Of Editing

24-03-2011
One more day before the final deadline of creating our thriller opening as part of our media coursework. so we had decide to make this 3 hour media session a very productive one.
Our tasks were to create the soundtrack for our opening as well as adding the title credits and refining some extra parts of the production to make it complete. We had decided to split up which made it easier and faster for everyone to do their work.
First Half of the lesson.
In the first half of the 3 hours, Viet was working on the editing with help from Sayf. They needed to make the title sequence look presentable for the audience and also 'professional' but they had a slight problem with the ending. Viet wasn't sure about the ending and so was the rest of the group. Although we knew why we showed an empty church we thought that the audience wouldn't understand, so we showed it to several other class mates and they didn't really understand the ending. We were planning how to end the thriller. We played the clip over and over again and we decided it would be good to leave a big cliff hanger if we ended it to when the guy taps the psycho on the shoulders as it leaves the audience in suspense.
Second Half of the lesson.
In the second half, I decided to start composing the soundtrack for our thriller opening. Viet decided to accompany me. We planned to create a similar composition to our bag swap soundtrack.
HOWEVER
I created a new soundtrack for the opening as I realised that the music should be spooky as our thriller was a psychological thriller and not an action thriller. When the rest of the group first heard the track they didn't think it fit in that well, however, thinking about it again, we came to conclusion that it made the opening seem more spooky which allowed it to portray a psychological thriller.

Indent For "Reap As You Sow"

Having an ident for our thriller is important as it tells the audience a lot about the producers as well as what kind of production they should expect to be seeing and it also sets a copy right onto the thriller to show that the ideas were produced by the production company

At first we wanted to use a worldwide ident for example:

Colombia Pictures
Or
20th Century Fox

However
We decided that choosing one of these extremly popular production idents would be unrealistic. Furthermore, it would have been a lie if we used either of the big names. We then found an ident which was appropriate for the thriller as it was a college made ident called
"CandiStudios"

Soundtrack For "Reap As You Sow"

Initially, we had decided to use the sound track of the bag swap for our final edit of "Reap As You Sow". But with a few counter arguments with my co-peers, I had persuaded them that we shouldn't use it because after playing around with "Soundtrack Pro" for a while I had created that I thought would match the suspense that our thriller is trying to portray. The rest of the group didn't think it worked at first but eventually they came around and saw that it did fit in well as it made the opening seem more spooky. The soundtrack for the bag swap was only experimental at the time so it didn't mean that we had to use it again for our actual coursework.

The music and sound effects that I composed for our thriller opening were:

'Not So Friendly Long'
'Not So Friendly Short'
'Nickhelm Scream'
'Auto Door Close'

Screen grabs of creating sound track for opening

Below are screen grabs of us as a group creating our sound track for our thriller opening, which we created on Sound Track Pro. Initally we were going to use the sound track from our bag swap, but later on after experimenting on Sound Track Pro we thought we would try an create a new sound piece.

Above is a screen grab showing all the different types of Melodic tunes available.

As you can see we have included a range of different instruments such as guitars, drums, ect.
