EVALUATION - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in theprogression from it to the full product?

As you can see from our prelim and our full product, we have improved massively through, editing, camera, mise en scene and sound.

Mise en scene

The location we used in the full product was a more effective as we went out and used a church instead of staying inside college which looked dull in the prelim.

The scenery in the church also added a more creative effect as the chandeliers was like a symbol for heaven as it was above him. The scenery in the college was just not as effective as it was just plain, there was not much we could do with the use of the college as there wasn't any good background to use.

In the full product we used a variety of shots

 

Whilst in the prelim there was only 2 different shots that was used. Over the shoulder and a medium shot.

There was more editing used in the final product, for example there were

There was only voices of me and Ryan speaking in the prelim, no other sounds was used and were all diegetic. In the final product there was no voices at all, instead all the sounds used was non-diegetic. It was a soundtrack which was produced by Ryan.

Team Work

When i first found out who was in my group, I wasn't satisfied as I didn't talk to anyone in the group before. During the first few weeks I didn't really get along with a member of the group but as weeks progressed and we started on our final product, everyone in the group seemed to get along with each-other and no one was complaining or having arguments. So i believed that as a group we made a team which could work well with each-other. Each person had their talent and knowledge about media, for instance

Sayf - Was good with coming up with ideas.

Ryan - Was good with music.

Zak - Was good with being creative to help Sayf.

Me - I was good with the editing.

So as a group we got along well once we started the final product.

EVALUATION - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? How will you attract/address your audience?

Companies such as CANDIStudios may distribute my film as it is a low budget film and CANDIStudios supports low budget films made by students.

Ways in which I could adress the audience is by sharing the video on various social-networking websites such as

So far, my film has only been shared on Blogger and temporarily on Facebook and has been watched by an audience of 200 people at a local cinema called

During the process of constructing this product I have learnt a lot of new skills about technology.

EVALUATION - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The representation and stereo type of the killer from my opening are:

Above is a still picture of our killer, he is walking in a park with his hands in his pocket and his head down. The image below is showing the character Sam from AdULTHOOD, as you can see he is also walking with his heads down and his hands in his pocket, these little actions suggest to us that they are 

Sly and Quiet 

They are both walking in a place where there are grass, Sam is walking in a graveyard whilst our killer is walking in a park. Although I listed 'DARK CLOTHING' as a stereo type for killer, Sam wears a grey 'hoodie'  but hides his face with a hood just like how our killer looks down to hide his face.

All this represents one particular social group.

FORMS & CONVENTIONS of Thriller title sequence
Reap As You Sow and Mission Impossible

Although both are different from each other the use of the quick flashes between shots in the opening of Mission Impossible reminds me of my opening with the quick zoom up of Tom Cruise's face which is comparable with the slow zoom of Ryan Cameron's face.

Mission Impossible has very quick shots whilst in my opening the shots are slow.

Zoom into face was also from Incredible Hulk

The strangling scene is comparable with Adulthood's fighting scene in the graveyard, where the victim is on a bench and the killer is on top.

Congratulations to my Group

I would like to take this time out to congratulate my group for their hard work.

Thanks to Sayf Ahmed who have came up with most of the plot and storyline of the opening. You have been great, without your hard work and dedication, I dont think that the group could have done it without you.

Thanks to Zak Chennane who really just did the camera work. You have been a good camera man, without you in the group, I think that I would have been the camera man instead but you did good.

Thanks to Ryan Cameron for being the star of the opening thriller, "Reap As You Sow". Also thanks for creating the music soundtrack for the opening. You did a great job.

My Thoughts On The Project

In the past 3 months I have really enjoyed myself. I have learnt so many new skills on editing, camera, making sound and etc. 

Although I thought that the group wasn't going to work well with each other, everything worked out well, even though the group had a few disagreements. We did have our ups and our downs during the project but everyone moved on and forgot about the downs and only thought about the final out come of the thriller opening.

I found that the hardest part of the project was the planning, everyone had different ideas and noone was willing to give up their idea to use someone else's idea. So we came up with an idea of mixing the all the ideas together to see what we got, some ideas worked and others didn't but I am really happy that we chose to do this as the outcome of it was good.

The filming of the thriller was the most enjoyable for me as we were able to get into an old fashioned church and film inside it. Though we had a limit time space we were able to get all the shots we needed in the church. Also the scene where Ryan and I bump into each other was difficult but also fun at the same time because we found it hard to keep a straight face for that scene and so we 

had to re-film it a few times.

I personally think that this project was not all about developing our media skills but it was also about the development of team work and being able to work as a team without so many arguments. At the start of the project the group really didnt get along but as time progressed I thought that as a group we matured and became a team. 

Evaluation of Thriller Opening "Reap As You Sow"

I thought that the opening turned out quite good but not as good as I thought it would, since I had really high expectation of it, and when I say high expectation I meant Hollywood made. Although it didn't turn out as good as I thought it would be, I thought that the whole thing worked as a whole. The music fit in very well with the opening and it also added more tension to the opening as it was very spooky.

Seeing our storyboard, we had a few scenes missing like the scene of the psycho washing bloods off his hands. We decided not to include this because we thought that it just did't fit in well with the other flash backs. Another thing which we cut out was the use of a rope, we just thought that the rope was a bit too extreme and thought 'why would anyone carry a rope around?'.

The font used in the title sequence was called 'Gill Sans'. I wanted to use something which was San serif and yet suitable for a thriller. 

If I could re-do anything then I would have got more close ups of the strangling scene and also have different angled shots. I would also include more props to represent something or be a symbol of something.

Last Day of Editing.

The last day of editing.

As the deadline was looming fast I made our last lesson of media a very effective and useful one by trying to finish everything off in the space of 3 hours. 

We had most of the things we needed before this day, the only thing needed to be done was the sound and presentation. The group split up which made it easier and faster for everyone to do their work. 

1st Half of the lesson.

In the first half of the 3 hours I was working on the editing with help from Sayf. I just needed to make the title sequence look presentable for the audience and also 'professional' so it didn't take me that long to do that, but we had a slight problem with the ending. I wasn't sure about the ending and so was the rest of the group. Although we knew why we showed an empty church we thought that the audience wouldn't understand, so I showed it to several other class mates and they didn't really understand the ending. Sayf and I were planning how to end the thriller. I played the clip over and over again and I thought it would was good to leave a big cliff hanger if we ended it to when the guy taps the psycho on the shoulders as it leaves the audience in suspense.

2nd Half of the lesson.

In the second half, I went to help Ryan out with the sound. Whilst I was with Sayf, Ryan played around with 'Soundtrack Pro' to see whether there was something else that could be added to the bag swap sound track. 

BUT 

he created a new soundtrack for the opening as he realised that the music should be spooky as our thriller was a psychological thriller and not an action thriller. When I first heard the track I didn't think it fit in that well but thinking about it again I came to conclusion that it made the opening seem more spooky which allowed it to be a psychological thriller.

After the lesson

I decided to stay after the lesson to finish of the opening as I wasn't satisfied. So I fixed up the opening with a few changes to the font of text used in the title sequence and I also made a few minor changes. I thought that we was missing an Ident so I looked around for different idents and decided to use the college ident which is called 'CandiStudios'.
